Our defining of racism came from an article by Beverly Tatum. This article had definitions of words regarding racism in its own way. From this, we had to create our own definitions and put it all together as a mind map. In this mind map, it includes our definitions, our thoughts, and connections.
From Beverly Tatum's article, my biggest takeaway was that stereotypes of race is something that kids see to know what race it is. Like the example given in the text, a kid would see from television that a Native American has a red face and feathers. This example made me realize that cartoons and other television ideas exposed to children can be racist and may even make kids racist. They take in the stereotype presented and remember it. With this, I think back to myself why are there people, who created the show for children, make racist stereotypes? There can be a child of any race who watched the cartoon stereotype of their own race and the child can feel bad about their culture and even themselves.
